Tottenham are one of several clubs offered the chance to sign Portugal winger Nani from Manchester United, it emerged today.
But any deal would be difficult to push through in the hours that remain before the deadline. It is believed Nani would prefer to move to Serie A, where Inter Milan and Juventus have expressed an interest, while Spurs would prefer a loan deal, with United keen to sell the player who is considered surplus to requirements by manager David Moyes.
Spurs need to reinforce in attack ahead of Jermain Defoe’s move to Toronto next month, but the priority throughout this window has been to move on players who do not figure prominently in the plans of head coach Tim Sherwood.
One such is Holtby, whose representatives expect to remain in the Premier League despite interest from Bundesliga clubs Schalke and Borussia Dortmund. Fulham are the favourites to sign the 23-year-old midfielder, who earns about £70,000 a week at White Hart Lane, on a deal until the end of the season.
Sherwood would also be willing to let Etienne Capoue, who joined the club from Toulouse only last summer. Spurs have already turned down an £8.2million bid from Napoli for the player, but sources in Italy claimed the southern club were considering returning with a fresh offer of £11.5m today.
That should be enough to persuade Spurs to let Capoue go, after paying £9m for him last summer.
“If I’m not playing, it will be difficult,” said Capoue. “If something comes up, we can talk about it.”
