Tottenham's Dele Alli: England should adopt young Spurs Euro 2016 mentality

Tottenham star Dele Alli has told Match of the Day magazine that England must draw on Spurs' experiences last season to stay focused in order to succeed at Euro 2016.

Alli was among the five Spurs players to be named in Roy Hodgson's final 23-man England squad for this summer's European Championships in France following a fine season at White Hart Lane.

The 20-year-old quickly became an integral player for Mauricio Pochettino's side as they fought for the Premier League title with Leicester, eventually qualifying for the Champions League after finishing third behind north London rivals Arsenal.

Alli will be hoping for success at Euro 2016 along with Spurs team-mates Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker, and says Hodgson's squad has a similar feel to their club dressing room.

When asked about the mood among the players, Alli said: “It’s great. It’s the same sort of atmosphere at Spurs – there are a lot of youngsters and everyone gets on well.

"We’ve got the same sort of philosophy and we’re looking to do the right things, which is important for the team.

“We’ve got to be right mentally – to stay focused and not get carried away if results go our way. We’ve got to be focused and, like this season at Spurs, take each game as it comes and not look too far ahead.

“We’ve got a lot of new players that have only just broken in recently, but there’s definitely a lot to be excited about. Whatever happens, it’s certainly a team that can be worked on for the future."

Alli's Spurs team-mate Kane is heading to France having won the Premier League Golden Boot last season with 25 goals, though Leicester title winner Jamie Vardy was not far behind on 24.

The young Spurs midfielder said the form of England's core group of players bodes well this summer, saying: “It can only be a positive thing for the team.

"The players that are going to France will bring a lot of depth and it will help the squad massively. It’ll be good for team spirit as well if everyone is playing at a good level. To go away and win the whole thing would be massive."

England turned in one of their most impressive displays in recent memory after coming from 2-0 down in Germany to beat Joachim Low's world champions 3-2 back in March - a result that still surprises Alli.

Asked how the Three Lions turned the result around, Alli responded: “I don’t really know! Whoever you’re playing against, you want to do as well as you can.

"You always look to impress. The biggest thing was we wanted to help each other and we all wanted the result."
