Heung-min Son has denied diving against Leicester City, with the Tottenham star admitting that he was "very disappointed and surprised" to be booked by referee Michael Oliver.

Son went down in the Leicester penalty area under a challenge from Harry Maguire during the first half of Sunday's Premier League clash at Wembley, though match official Oliver awarded the Foxes a free-kick and showed Son a yellow card for simulation.

Spurs and Son had the last laugh as his last goal helped secure a 3-1 victory to keep Mauricio Pochettino's side in the hunt for the Premier League title, though Son said after the game that the early booking hurt.

"In my feeling it was a penalty when Harry Maguire touched me," Son told Sky Sports.

"I was very disappointed and surprised [to get a yellow]. Referee decisions are part of football."

Twitter users responding to Standard Sport's mid-match poll were split over Olivier's decision: 39 per cent of respondents believed it should have been a spot-kick; 38 per cent suggested it was a dive, while 23 per cent though it was neither a foul nor simulation.

Regardless of the booking, the result leaves Tottenham five points behind leaders Liverpool after 26 games and firmly in the title race.
