The Met police are on red alert for tonight’s semi-final, amid concerns over sections of Ajax’s support.
There were clashes with Juventus fans before the first leg of their quarter-final in Amsterdam and Italian police arrested and deported 54 Ajax ‘ultras’, armed with knuckle-dusters and pyrotechnics, in Turin ahead of the second leg.
Uniformed police will be stationed inside Tottenham’s new stadium and the club will follow the same security procedures as for Saturday’s match against rivals West Ham, a Category A fixture, which passed off without trouble.
There is optimism that the good relationship between the sets of fans will prevent any serious clashes, although the use of pyrotechnics in the away end is a concern and fans entering the ground will be subjected to thorough checks.
Transport for London has emailed commuters warning them against taking the overground north from Seven Sisters station, amid fears of chaos on the trains ahead of the 8pm kick-off. Several tube drivers will be instructed not to stop at the station due to overcrowding and fans are being encouraged to walk from Tottenham Hale station or travel from Liverpool Street.
Spurs have encouraged supporters to match the players by wearing in white, while the single-tier South Stand will display a ‘To Dare is to Do’ mosaic when the teams enter, as it did ahead of the quarter-final first leg win over Manchester City.
