Manchester United have just a three per cent chance of reaching the Champions League knockout stages, according to poll analysis experts FiveThirtyEight.

Goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe saw Paris Saint-Germain run out 2-0 winners at Old Trafford, United heaviest home defeat in European competition.

Eric Bailly has not given up hope of United becoming the first team in Champions League history to progress after losing 2-0 in a home first leg.

FiveThirtyEight, who deal in predictions in American politics and beyond, rate United's chances at just 3%.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have a 96% chance of reaching their first Champions League quarter-final in eight years after a 3-0 home win over Borussia Dortmund.

Heung-min Son, Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente all scored in a second-half goal blitz at Wembley to leave the Bundesliga leaders on the brink.

Such a performance has also boosted Tottenham's prospects further into the tournament, with FiveThirtyEight giving them a 38% chance of reaching the semi-finals, 15% chance of reaching the final and a 6% chance of winning the whole competition.
