Hugo Lloris on the secret to Tottenham's stunning Champions League campaign

Hugo Lloris believes that the togetherness of Tottenham's squad is the key reason for Spurs' unlikely run to Saturday's Champions League Final in Madrid.

Few would have predicted at the start of the campaign that Spurs would be competing for the biggest prize in European club football come June, but Mauricio Pochettino's men are now a win against Liverpool away from sporting immortality.

The feat is all the more remarkable considering that Pochettino's last signing was made back in January 2018, while the club's move to their new 62,062-seater stadium was delayed for much of the season.

Spurs looked down and out after just three Champions League group games, with Pochettino's side picking up one point from those matches. However, the north London club went on to pick up seven points from their remaining three games - including a draw at Barcelona - to progress.

Tottenham made light work of Borussia Dortmund in the last-16 stage, but needed a slice of good fortune in the quarters against Manchester City as a late, late VAR decision saw Raheem Sterling's injury-time effort ruled out for offside as Spurs went through on away goals at the Etihad.

It was another late show for Spurs in the last four as Lucas Moura - the club's last signing, incidentally - hit a second-half hat-trick in Amsterdam to dump Ajax out on away goals in the last few seconds of the their semi-final tie.

Asked for the secret to Spurs' Champions League campaign, club captain Lloris said: "I think the togetherness and the best example was the semi-final in Amsterdam after the game.

"The community between the players and staff, the players and the chairman, the players and the fans. It was one of the best moments of my Spurs career.

"And obviously we want a better moment tomorrow. It's important to enjoy the way we work. Football is a collective sport.

"We spend so much time together and we work on togetherness in training. That's why we're at this stage of the competition – because we are professional.

"We need everyone to be fair. I think it's a good mix in the changing room of experienced and young players. Just follow leaders - first of the all the manager and then the team leaders.

"It's going to be a fantastic game to enjoy and the best way to enjoy is to win; Every player is important at this stage. It's about details. We all want to win."
