Tottenham are set to be boosted by the return of Heung-min Son for Wednesday’s Premier League match against Watford after the forward took part in full training on Tuesday.

Son has missed the last three matches at the Asian Cup but South Korea's surprise defeat to Qatar in the quarter-final means he has returned to the club sooner than expected.

Spurs have crashed out of both domestic cups in Son's absence – losing on penalties to Chelsea in the League Cup semi-final before Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fourth-round – but Pochettino may not risk him from the start at Wembley after a physically draining stint in the UAE.

"I wasn't fully prepared," revealed Son, who played three matches at the Asian Cup after arriving before South Korea's final group-stage game with China.

"I felt physically empty. I feel so sorry to have let down my team-mates, coaches and the fans. I would rather not speak about it really but I haven't felt right physically. I was losing sleep – I should have looked after my condition better."
