Arsenal and Tottenham unquestionably ranks among the most significant, and most thrilling, of English footballing rivalries, and Saturday’s could rank among the most crucial ever.

In recent years the north London derby has been the most absorbing battle the Premier League has to offer. Whoever comes out on top these games have been high-scoring affairs, and have often gone on to set the tone for each side’s season; with a title up for grabs Saturday’s victor will hope that is the case.

Even outside the Premier League excitement can be guaranteed in a north London derby. September saw an Arsenal side reeling from successive defeats to Dinamo Zagreb and Chelsea claim a 2-1 victory at the Lane. If that weren’t excitement enough both goals came from defensive terrier Mathieu Flamini, the second a volley as good as any scored in this fixture.

November’s league meeting saw Tottenham outclass Arsenal throughout the contest but Kieran Gibbs rescued a point for the Gunners when he cancelled out Harry Kane’s opener.
