Rafael Benitez is determined to keep hold of Georginio Wijnaldum amid reports linking the attacking midfielder with Tottenham.

The Newcastle boss is anticipating plenty of interest in the Dutch star before the summer transfer window closes on August 31.

Spurs are reportedly monitoring Wijnaldum, who moved to St. James's Park for £14.5million 12 months ago, but have been put off by Newcastle's £25million valuation.

And Benitez says the 25-year-old will only be allowed to leave against the club's wishes if the agreement satisfies all parties.

“Our idea is to keep these players, if it’s possible," said Rafael Benitez, referring to interest in Wijnaldum and Moussa Sissoko.

“But we know how football is now and the market and agents.

“Gini has trained really well, and I’m very happy with him.

“And Moussa, I rate him very highly. He was very good for us at the end of the season and in the Euros.

“We know what is going on. A lot of people will be asking for them, but, at the moment, we will see if they can stay and improve the team.

“It not, we will find the best solution for the team.”
