Tottenham defender Federico Fazio has arrived in Roma ahead of his proposed season-long loan move to the Serie A side.

The 29-year-old has been told by Mauricio Pochettino that he is no longer required in north London and the Spurs manager publicly stated so during the club's pre-season tour of Australia.

Fazio is set to move to Luciano Spalletti's side on an initial temporary basis but, if he is successful, could seal a permanent move to the Stadio Olimpico.

Fazio was all smiles as he posed for photographs with a Roma scarf as he left Fiumicino airport and is closing in on a White Hart Lane exit.

The central defender joined Spurs from Sevilla on a four-year contract in the summer of 2014 but has struggled to established himself in English football.

Fazio made 20 Premier League appearances during his debut season at Spurs and spent the second half of last season on loan at his former club Sevilla after being unable to secure regular game time ahead of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
