Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino insists Emmanuel Adebayor can still carve out a role at White Hart Lane despite his absence in the victory over Burnley on Wednesday evening.

The Argentine had said in his pre-match press conference that Adebayor was fit to feature and suggested the he would bring the Togo striker back into the fold after a nine-week absence.

But the towering forward was again left out of the matchday squad, adding fuel to recent speculation that the former Arsenal man is set to leave north London with a number of clubs lining up an offer.

Pochettino, however, has again moved to dismiss the transfer talk and said Adebayor is nearing match fitness. The Argentine added that his forward still has a future at the club despite his recent lay-off.

"Yes, I explained last week, he's nearly ready for selection," said Pochettino. "He's training in the last few weeks; his training sessions have been very good."
