Tottenham transfer news: Christian Eriksen still wanted by Juventus as Spurs hold contract extension talks

Wanted: Serie A giants keen on bringing Eriksen to Italy

Christian Eriksen figures prominently on Juventus’s list of targets as they seek a playmaker capable of helping them win the Champions League.

Sources in Italy have indicated that Juventus have made known their interest in Eriksen again, a year after they were told by Tottenham that the Dane was not for sale.

Eriksen is currently in talks over a new contract at White Hart Lane, which he has said repeatedly that he expects to sign.

The 24-year-old’s deal, worth close to £30,000 a week, has another two years to run. He would expect a new one to double his salary.

Eriksen has stressed he is happy at Tottenham and performed superbly in the second half of the season, registering 13 assists.

But Juventus have admired him for a long time and have not been deterred by Spurs’s refusal last August.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri would like to be able to play a 4-3-1-2 formation next season, using a No10 behind a pair of forwards.

The Italian champions are also believed to be interested in Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the Borussia Dortmund player, and Spain international Isco, who is out of favour at Real Madrid.

Juventus were knocked out of the Champions League at the second-round stage but reached the final last season and believe they can go one better next, if only they make the right signings.

Hernanes, the Brazilian brought from Inter Milan last summer to play in the No10 role, has disappointed this season, making only 14 starts.

Tottenham’s response to an eventual approach from Juventus is likely to be the same as it was in 2015.

And speaking recently, Eriksen said: “It’s 100 per cent the case that we have the quality to compete in the Champions League.

“Hopefully it will be good fun next season.”

But Juve’s interest may be a sign of things to come for Tottenham, whose fine season has drawn attention to their best players.

Like Eriksen, Kane will be offered a new deal that is expected to double his salary to £100,000 a week, while Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela have also been involved in contract negotiations.

Tottenham’s main men were pleased to see head coach Mauricio Pochettino sign a new five-year deal earlier this month.
