Tottenham to learn if Brent Council back full use of Wembley's 90,000 capacity next season

Tottenham will learn on Wednesday whether Brent Council’s officials back their plan to have full use of Wembley’s 90,000 capacity for every home game next season.

Ahead of the meeting of the planning committee on March 23, council officers are expected to deliver their verdict by the middle of next week on the proposal submitted by Wembley National Stadium Limited.

Wembley want to increase the number of full-capacity events that could be held at the venue between August 1 this year and July 31, 2018 – which would give Spurs the option of playing every home fixture next term in front of a full house.

Though the council officers’ recommendation is not decisive, it gives a clear indication to the planning committee of their views.

It will be one of the factors taken into account by the committee, along with the views of local residents and the potential benefits to the area.

Tottenham have still not confirmed officially where they will play home matches next term, although club staff are working on the basis that they will move to Wembley.

The club would spend a season at the national stadium ahead of a switch to their new 61,000-seat home – a project costing about £800million – in 2018-19.
