Tottenham striker Harry Kane admitted that England were brought back to reality by their 2-1 loss to Holland last night.

England were on a high after beating world champions Germany in Berlin on Saturday, only to fall short on home soil against a Dutch side that have failed to qualify for Euro 2016.

It was just their second reverse in 19 matches, but was enough to cool some of the excitable talk following the Germany victory that England are one of the favourites to win the tournament in France this summer.

Kane admits they still have a lot of improving to do and when asked if he felt the loss will have to calm everyone's expectations, he said: "It does. It was a disappointing result, but I don't think we played as well as we did the other night.

"After the Germany game we knew we still have a lot to work on, we're still a young side learning.

"It's disappointing, you always want to win games of course but we have done. We just have to get on with it and move on quickly. We go back to our club form now and try to get ready for the Euros."

Both Kane and Spurs team-mate Dele Alli came on as substitutes in the second half when England were already 2-1 down.

Jamie Vardy's first goal at Wembley had put the home side in front, only for Vincent Janssen to equalise from the penalty spot and Luciano Narsingh to get the winner.

On both occasions coach Roy Hodgson felt England were victim of a poor decision by referee Antonio Miguel Mateu.

Kane added: "That's football, the decisions could have gone either way from where I was sitting but you have to deal with that, especially in European football."
