The fitness of Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen continues to be carefully managed after he was replaced at half-time in a pre-arranged substitution during Denmark's 0-0 draw with the Republic of Ireland last night.

Eriksen and Denmark coach Age Hareide agreed that he would only play the first half because the Danes had already finished top of their Nations League group ahead of Martin O’Neill’s side and Wales.

The midfielder missed a month of the season with an abdominal injury and Hareide warned it could become ‘chronic’ if he was not managed properly.

Tottenham are back in Premier League action when they host London rivals Chelsea at Wembley this weekend.

Having been an unused substitute in the win over Crystal Palace, Eric Dier returned to action over the international break, playing half an hour against the United States and all 90 minutes of the Croatia win. Jan Vertonghen remains unavailable following his hamstring injury and is not set to return until December.
