Tottenham star Son Heung-Min inspired South Korea to a 2-0 win over Iran as they advanced to the quarter-finals of the Asian Games.

Goals from Hwang Ui-Jo and Lee Seung-Woo sealed the defending champions' place in the next round in Jakarta and they will face Uzbekistan on Monday.

The 26-year-old, who scored the only goal in the 1-0 victory over Krygrystan on Monday, missed an early opportunity to get on the score sheet this time around.

The stakes are high for the Tottenham forward as he, along with his team-mates, will be required to report for 21 months of national service in his native country if they fail to retain their Asian Games title.

All Korean men must report for duty before the age of 28 and Son is yet to do so. However, he will be granted an exclusion if the national team bring win the Gold medal match in Indonesia.

Their quest to qualify from their group looked under threat following a shock 2-1 defeat to Malaysia but three wins in a row ensure that South Korea are the favourites to triumph once again.

Spurs could be without Son, who scored 15 goals last season, until at least September 2 - the day after the Asian Games Final. As part of the release terms, he will miss South Korea's friendly in November and the first two matches of the Asian Cup in January.
