Ange Postecoglou wants to “let the fans dream” after Tottenham moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 2-1 win at Crystal Palace.

An own-goal from Joel Ward and a close-range finish from Heung-min Son proved enough as Selhurst Park. Spurs were made to work hard for their second London derby victory of the week and continue a stunning start to the season which now stands at eight wins and two draws from their opening 10 games.

“Let them dream”, Postecoglou said of Spurs supporters. “This lot have suffered a fair bit. I’m not going to dampen that. Dreams last as long as they do until somebody wakes you up, so we’ll just see.

“I really liked the way we handled tonight. It’s difficult when they’re a very well-drilled team. Going into it, I knew it wasn’t going to be an open game.

“I really liked the way the boys handled it. They were patient. They had composure. There was a bit of drama at the end but I really liked the way we went about it.”

The Aussie added: “Top of the table is great and results are great, but it’s more about how you handle it. We’ve had all sorts of challenges to overcome.”

Asked whether Tottenham’s lofty position in the league could lead to complacency amongst his players, Postecoglou said: “I don’t see anyone floating about the place. There’s no reason for them to feel that way. Training is competitive. It doesn’t allow you to be [complacent].

“If you think about that kind of stuff, you’ve probably got the wrong kinds of people in your building.”

Spurs now have 10-day break until the next game, the visit of fierce London rivals Chelsea - and the return of Mauricio Pochettino - on Monday October 6.
