Eighth-tier Marine were unable to pull off the greatest upset in FA Cup history, going down 5-0 to Premier League Tottenham in the third-round on Sunday.

Carlos Vincius scored a first-half hat-trick and fellow Brazilian Lucas Moura added another as Jose Mourinho’s side ran riot in 13 first-half minutes.

Alfie Devine, aged 16 and 163 days, came on at half-time to become Spurs’ youngest-ever player and soon became their youngest goalscorer, netting a fine finish to make it 5-0.

Tottenham player ratings

Joe Hart 6

Seemed to misjudge Marine’s best chance, allowing Neil Kengni’s 35-yard screamer to crash onto the bar at 0-0. What a moment it could have been. Otherwise, largely untested.

Matt Doherty 7

Spent most of the game playing as an auxiliary forward, which suits him. Finished with an assist when Vinicius tapped in after his shot was saved.

Toby Alderweireld 6

It said a lot about the occasion that his most memorable contribution was a silky turn on the right wing. Replaced at half-time after a quiet half.

Joe Rodon 7

Assured on the ball and did his job defensively when called upon, flinging himself in front of James Joyce’s shot to deny Marine an opening and blocking from Kengni late on.

Ben Davies 6

Squandered a couple of good attacking opportunities with over-hit crosses.

Moussa Sissoko 7

Played his part in Spurs’ first-half procession before being hooked for Devine at the interval.

 Harvey White 7

Full debutant covered plenty of ground and kept it simple. The free-kick specialist will be frustrated at firing one into the wall before handing over duties to Lucas.

Gedson Fernandes 5

Understandably looked rusty, having not played since September, and kept losing possession. Quite possibly a farewell appearance.

The architect of Tottenham’s romp, creating the first two goals with patient, unselfish crosses to the back post. But also guilty of a couple of the flicks that infuriated Mourinho at Stoke last month.

Lucas Moura 8

Marine struggled to cope with his pace and directness, and scored a fine free-kick after winning a foul on the edge of the box.

Made a case for more game-time with a ruthless hat-trick, including a classy finish for the third. Showed a poacher’s instinct.

Substitutes

Alfie Devine (Sissoko 46’) 8

Spurs’ youngest-ever player became the club’s youngest ever scorer with a superb finish. Looked at home in men’s football and clearly has a huge future.

Japhet Tanganga (Alderweireld 46’) 7

Rarely troubled as Spurs saw out the second half on the front foot.

Gareth Bale (Dele 63’) 6

Tested the goalkeeper with a dipping free-kick as he began his return from injury. The Marine players will always be able to say they faced a four-time Champions League winner.

Jack Clarke (Lucas 63’) 6

Didn’t get his chance in front of goal but worked hard to create openings fom the left wing.

Sergio Reguilon (Davies 69’) 7

Played with his usual enthusiasm and energy, despite Spurs already being home and dry. Once beaten by his man but recovered well.

Subs not used: Sanchez, Gazzaniga, Ndombele, Son.
