Tottenham player ratings vs Brentford: Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson make amends as Richarlison shines

How we rated Spurs stars as they grab a vital three points

Tottenham scored three goals in ten minutes at the start of the second half to seal a 3-2 win over Brentford in an entertaining and feisty London derby.

Neal Maupay reacted quickest to a rebound to scramble Brentford in front after 15 minutes and Spurs struggled to make inroads through a packed Bees defence in the first half.

But the introductions of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Brennan Johnson at the interval were followed by a total transformation, and within 10 minutes of the restart goals from Destiny Udogie, Johnson and Richarlison had given the hosts a 3-1 lead.

Udogie's error gifted Ivan Toney a goal back for Brentford but Spurs held on to move back into the top four.

Guglielmo Vicario 6

Saved from Toney twice in the first half, including before Maupay's goal. Under the cosh at set pieces and a bit flappy at times.

Pedro Porro 7

His technique caught the eye again and he was willing to shoot on sight.

Cristian Romero 6

Played Toney onside ahead of the opening goal and failed to react to the rebound. Improved in the second half as Spurs held on.

Micky van de Ven 7

Struggled with Brentford's press on a couple of occasions but made some important interventions at the back.

Destiny Udogie 4

At fault for both Brentford's goals, gifting Toney the ball for the second. Went some way to making amends with a goal in a strange performance.

Rodrigo Bentancur 4

Looked off the pace, his passes often under-hit or loose. Understandable given his long injury lay-offs.

Oliver Skipp 7

Unfortunate to be hooked at the interval (assuming he wasn't injured) after looking sharp in the first half. Saw an early shot blocked.

James Maddison 7

Added tempo and creativity, and his blocked shot led to Richarlison's goal. He did not look at his sharpest but his return is a obviously plus for Spurs.

Dejan Kulusevski 5

Struggled to get into the game from the wing or No10 and was not at his best.

Turned the game with two assists within minutes of the restart to kickstart his time at Spurs. Was wasteful in the first half, fluffing a string of crosses.

Richarlison 7

Continued his rich vein of form with another poacher's finish, having gone closest for Spurs in the first half with a curling effort. Held the ball up well.

Substitutes

Brennan Johnson (Bentancur 45') 7

Taken flak during a poor run of form but helped to turn the game on its head with the second goal and looked more confident afterwards.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Skipp 45') 7

Showed he has a part to play in the latter half of the season with an impressive second half display, helping to change the match.

Radu Dragusin (Maddison 88') 6

Battled hard as Spurs clung on at the death.

Jamie Donley (Werner 90') 6

Earned a booking for a necessary tactical foul.

Not used: Forster, Gil, Emerson, Davies, Scarlett.
