Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has explained his decision to drop Dele Alli.

The England international started last week's Premier League opener against Everton, but dropped to the bench as Spurs prepared to host Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Indeed, Pochettino opted to bring summer signing Vincent Janssen into his starting XI in place of Alli for the club's first home game of the Premier League season.

The 22-year-old, who scored 27 goals in the Dutch league last term, was making his first competitive start and his Argentine boss outlined the importance of a tactical shift ahead of the game.

"It's a good opportunity for Vincent Janssen to play. He made a big impact for us at Everton," Pochettino said in comments posted on the club's twitter feed.

"We have the chance to play two strikers, that's important for us and today is a chance to see how we perform with two strikers."

Tottenham were traling 1-0 at Everton last weekend when Janssen was summoned from the bench and Erik Lamela snatched a point just three minutes later.
