Tottenham 2-2 Liverpool: Pulsating draw an example of Premier League at its very best

Tottenham and Liverpool played out a pulsating 2-2 draw in one of the best Premier League games of the season on Sunday afternoon.

Harry Kane put Spurs ahead before Diogo Jota headed the away side onto level terms before the break. Somewhat controversially, Andy Robertson (who was later sent-off) put Liverpool ahead despite what looked like a foul on Dele Alli and a handball from Mohamed Salah in the build-up.

Kane, who scored only his second Premier League goal of the season, could well have had a hat-trick on the day. Alli, meanwhile, should really have capped off an impressive first league start under Antonio Conte with a goal when Spurs lead only 1-0.

As impressive as it is that Liverpool that appear able to dig goals out of pretty much nowhere, this was not a good performance.

Granted, missing some key players after positive Covid tests would leave most teams weaker but it does speak to the challenge they have ahead of them. Brilliant they may be but the options simply don’t run as deep as they do at Manchester City.

For their part, Tottenham look ready to battle the big boys.
