Richarlison is nearing a return from injury in a welcome boost for Tottenham as the club issue an update on Emerson Royal's fitness.

The forward left the pitch in tears after injuring his calf in the opening minutes of the 3-3 draw with Southampton, prompting fears over a long injury layoff.

However, Standard Sport understands Richarlison is hopeful of returning quickly to match action, though Monday's visit to his former club Everton is likely to come too soon.

Acting head coach Cristian Stellini is set to be without Emerson for six weeks after Spurs confirmed the defender requires surgery on a meniscus injury sustained on Brazil duty, leaving the full-back touch and go to play again this season.

"We can confirm that Emerson Royal suffered a meniscus injury to his left knee while on international duty with Brazil last week," a club statement read.

"The defender will undergo surgery before beginning his rehabilitation with our medical staff."

Left-backs Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon are sidelined with hamstring injuries, while midfielders Rodrigo Bentancur (ACL) and Yves Bissouma (ankle) will not play again this season.
