Tottenham star Heung-min Son returns to London ahead of proposed Premier League restart

Tottenham forward Heung-min Son is due to return to London next week after completing national service, the club announced.

Son could self-isolate for 14 days on arrival in the UK, as he did when he returned from Seoul following surgery on a fractured arm at the start of March.

The Premier League is hoping clubs can return to training – under strict guidelines – by May 18 and resume fixtures by mid-June.

The top-flight is awaiting the Government's updated lockdown advice on Sunday evening before holding a crucial shareholders' meeting on Monday, when all 20 clubs are expected to vote on details of Project Restart, including whether to complete the campaign at eight to 10 neutral venues.

Son has already spent four weeks in self-isolation since the start of the coronavirus pandemic – once in the UK and once in Seoul.

He was reportedly awarded South Korea's Pilsung Prize after completing conscription. The Pilsung prize - meaning 'certain victory' - was awarded during a closed ceremony, and was one of just five prizes dished out at the end of the assignment, with Son selected from 157 trainees.

The 27-year-old was given special exemption from South Korea's mandatory 21-month military service in 2018 after captaining his country to a gold medal in the Asian Games, but was still required to complete this shortened three-week assignment with the Marines.
