Tottenham end Chelsea's winning run as Blues fail to set new Premier League record

Chelsea missed out on setting a new Premier League record after defeat to Tottenham on Wednesday spelled the end of their winning streak.

Antonio Conte's men had the chance to be the first team to secure 14 consecutive top-flight victories in a single season had they beat Spurs, but Dele Alli's two headed goals ensured Chelsea's remarkable winning run came to a grinding halt at White Hart Lane.

The result means Arsenal's record of 14 straight league wins, set across two seasons in 2002, still stands.

The result also hands Chelsea's Premier League rivals Liverpool a boost as they remain just five points behind the Blues following their 2-2 draw with Sunderland on Monday.

Despite the loss to Spurs, Chelsea's 13-game winning run is a club record, with the Blues' previous best run coming in 2009 when the club strung together 11 consecutive league victories.

This season's streak saw Chelsea enjoy some big wins, including a 5-0 thrashing of Everton in November and a 4-0 victory over Jose Mourinho's Manchester United side.

Conte's side had to dig in deep in some of their other wins, however, as they narrowly beat Middlesbrough, West Brom, Sunderland and Crystal Palace by 1-0 scorelines.

But Conte will be happy with the fact his Chelsea team conceded just six goals during their 13 wins, with two coming against Spurs on Wednesday, two being let in against Stoke on New Year's Eve and Manchester City and Tottenham scoring one each in their respective games against the league leaders.
