Tottenham can forget about winning Premier League titles if they cannot secure a positive result at Anfield, according to Garth Crooks.

Mauricio Pochettino's side travelled to Liverpool at the weekend in high spirits, having avoided defeat in their previous nine Premier league fixtures.

But Spurs produced a disjointed performance against Jurgen Klopp's men and were blown away by Sadio Mane's early brace.

The result has left Spurs 10 points adrift of pacesetters Chelsea while just two points now separate the Blues' five closest rivals.

Pochettino subsequently delivered a damning assessment of his players' desire and Crooks believes Spurs can no longer catch Antonio Conte's side with just 13 games left to play.

Crooks told the BBC: "I don't know what it is about Spurs and Anfield but they have only won there eight times in 81 league visits. What's that about?

"The person responsible on this occasion for continuing Tottenham's dismal record against Liverpool was Sadio Mane.

"Suddenly, the team with one of the best defensive records in the league looked like a unit that had never played together before.

"Spurs fans can forget league titles if their team can't go to Anfield and get a result… Chelsea did," he added.

Spurs are set to take a break from the pressures of the title race over the next few weeks, courtesy of their involvement in the Europa League and FA Cup.

Europe's secondary cup competition is not looked upon favourably by some fans but Hugo Lloris believes it can help to build a "title winning mentality" at White Hart Lane.
