Tom Huddlestone: Tottenham will join Euro elite

Tom Huddlestone believes Tottenham will qualify for the Champions League this season and establish themselves as regulars in the competition under Andre Villas-Boas.

Last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Southampton moved Spurs into the top four for the first time this season.

They face Wigan at White Hart Lane tomorrow and Huddlestone said: “I like to think the top four will be our natural habitat as a club. We’ve been to the Champions League before and we’re aiming high again.”

Huddlestone made himself a Spurs regular under Harry Redknapp before a serious ankle injury sustained in August 2011 saw the midfielder miss the whole of last season.

The 25-year-old returned in the summer and has featured in Tottenham’s past four games in the absence of injured Mousa Dembele.

Huddlestone said: “I had half-cemented my place in the team, we had finished fourth under Harry Redknapp and were going well in the Champions League when I first picked up the ankle injury, and it was the start of a long struggle.

“Last year was a write-off and a nightmare, especially watching the lads do so well up until February, when they were in with a chance of winning the title.”

Wigan ended a run of six Premier League games without victory with a 2-1 win over West Ham last weekend.

Manager Roberto Martinez said: “I believe Tottenham are going to become one of the best sides in the Premier League and in Europe. The new signings have brought an edge to what was already a strong side.”
