Sacked: Spurs replaced Sherwood with Pochettino in May

Former Tottenham playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson is confident Tim Sherwood would have been a success at White Hart Lane if he had been given more time.

Sherwood, who took over from Andre Villas-Boas after the Portuguese left the club in December 2013, and led the club to sixth in the Premier League last season.

But despite only being five months into an 18-month contract at Spurs, Sherwood was sacked by chairman Daniel Levy in May this year.

Sigurdsson, who played under Sherwood but is now at Swansea City, thinks it is regrettable his former manager wasn’t afforded more time to make things work.

“He’s a good manager,” the Iceland international told FourFourTwo. “I really enjoyed playing under him.

“It’s a shame he didn’t get the job and stay there for longer.

“The way he talks about the club and the way he feels about it, I’m sure he would have done well.

“There were a lot of changes during my time there.

“I had three managers and a lot of players came in and went out again.

“Hopefully they can get some stability back into the club and can get some success there in the next couple of seasons.”
