Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois says he wants to be part of the club's history as Atletico Madrid confirmed they are keen to keep hold of him for another year.
The 21-year-old has spent the past two seasons on loan in Spain with Atletico since moving to Stamford Bridge from Genk for £7million in 2011.
Courtois has yet to make an appearance for the Blues but is highly regarded at the club and Standard Sport reported earlier this year that it will take an offer in excess of £20million to prise him away.
Courtois recently added a Spanish Cup-winners medal to a growing collection of honours and is in line for La Liga's Zamora award, given to the goalkeeper who concedes the fewest goals in the league season. However, he is unsure where his immediate future lies.
"I signed with Chelsea, not just because it is a big club but also because of its commitment to young players," the Belgian told The Independent. "I want to be part of Chelsea history.
"If the new manager says, 'I want Courtois as my first choice', that is how it will be. But Petr Cech is a world-class goalkeeper who plays every game at such a high level.
"Chelsea have always been very fair with me and they are also smart people and they know that I need to play.
"I don't know where that will be but I do know I have proved myself in the two years I have been here [in Madrid]."
Atletico manager Diego Simeone was today asked about the future of Courtois, and said: "We are working on keeping him for another year."
