Liverpool boost with Jurgen Klopp hinting Thiago Alcantara’s injury is not serious

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has offered a positive update on the severity of Thiago Alcantara’s injury.

The midfielder was selected to start Sunday’s dramatic Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea but was forced to withdraw after suffering what appeared to be a hamstring injury during the warm-up.

While a hugely influential figure at his best, the former Bayern Munich star has frequently struggled with injury since moving to Anfield in 2020. Few would doubt his quality but, in total, the 30-year-old has missed 41 games during his Liverpool career so far.

Harvey Elliott is emerging as a regular first-team option for Klopp in midfield, alongside the likes of Curtis Jones following Georginio Wijnaldum’s exit last summer.

There is hope, however, that Alcantara’s most recent setback is not particularly serious and could return after next week’s Champions League meeting with Inter Milan at Anfield.

“He’s fine again but not fit again,” said Klopp ahead of Wednesday’s FA Cup fifth round tie with Norwich City.

“Like always, you don’t know [how long he will be out] exactly. Weekend not sure, maybe Milan, after that definitely.”
