Sutton goalkeeper Wayne Shaw jokingly agrees to join Arsenal in exchange for six Cornish pasties

Sutton United's back-up goalkeeper Wayne Shaw has jokingly committed to joining Arsenal in exchange for six Cornish pasties.

The club's substitute goalkeeper stole headlines on Monday evening when he tucked into a pie during Sutton's 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup.

The non-league side had already used all three substitutes when Shaw was shown enjoying a snack while leaning against the home dugout.

The 20 stone shot-stopper - known affectionately as the 'roly poly goalie' - also reportedly enjoyed the bar facilities at Gander Green Lane during the interval while manager Paul Doswell spoke to his players in the home dressing room.

And the 45-year-old made the most of his moment in the spotlight by appearing on ITV's Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, still dressed in Sutton's training gear.

With Shaw's Sutton contract due to expire at the end of the season host Piers Morgan asked: "What would it take to prise you and your pies out of Sutton to Arsenal?"

Gesturing at a plate of four pasties on the studio sofa, Shaw responded: "I think two more than the four you've got there."

Susannah Reid then tells her co-host to up his bid before Morgan adds: "So let me just clarify, for six Cornish pasties you will sign for Arsenal."

"Definitely," declares a chuckling Shaw.

The goalkeeper has not made an appearance for Sutton this term but once played in the same youth team as the Premier League's all-time leading scorer Alan Shearer, who was at Sutton United on Monday evening in his role as a BBC pundit.
