Stuart Pearce's plea over rising star Jack Wilshere

Double-booked: Jack Wilshere
11 April 2012

Stuart Pearce believes Jack Wilshere should remain with the England Under-21s if he is not going to be involved for the senior team against Montenegro on Tuesday.

The Arsenal midfielder has been named in both squads and will line up for Pearce's U21s against Romania at Carrow Road tonight before joining Fabio Capello and the senior players ahead of the Euro 2012 qualifier at Wembley.

But Pearce revealed that the 18-year-old star could remain with his squad for the return leg of their European Championship qualifier in the Romanian city of Botasani on Tuesday.

"What we have tried to achieve at the younger age groups is to upgrade the players if they're going to go in and play," said Pearce. "If they are not going to play, leave them in the age group where they can actually play 90 minutes and get 90 minutes' experience.

"I will speak with Fabio and, inevitably, the decision on what happens to Jack will rest with him.

"But whatever decision Fabio comes to, it is for the benefit of the player and his advancement."
