Still no deals for Nigel Worthington's backroom staff

11 April 2012

Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington's backroom team has still not been finalised three weeks after he verbally agreed a new deal to stay on.

Leeds assistant boss Glynn Snodin, Worthington's right-hand man, and goalkeeping coach Fred Barber remain in discussions with the Irish Football Association.

However both men are known to be frustrated by the delay after Worthington said he would remain until the end of the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

The draw for the qualifiers takes place in Warsaw on Sunday and while Worthington will attend he appears no nearer to getting the go-ahead to reinstate some of his key support staff.

IFA president Raymond Kennedy and chief executive Patrick Nelsen will also be part of the delegation to Poland, where the matter regarding Snodin and Barber could be on the agenda.

Northern Ireland have a friendly scheduled on March 3 against Albania in Tirana with Worthington looking to begin his preparations for the qualifiers.

He will no doubt be hoping Snodin and Barber are back on the training field, given their rapport with the players and other football staff.

An IFA spokesperson said: "The contract talks with Fred and Glynn are still ongoing."
