Steven Caulker leaves QPR by mutual consent after struggling to make Ian Holloway's side

Caulker has made just four appearances in all competitions this season

QPR have confirmed that centre-back Steven Caulker has left the club by mutual consent.

One-time England international Caulker has not featured for QPR since September 26.

Caulker, who made his only appearance for the Three Lions in a 2012 friendly against Sweden, failed to nail down a place in Ian Holloway’s side and leaves Loftus Road having made 54 appearances in all competitions since joining from Cardiff in July 2014, scoring three goals.

A statement on the club Twitter feed announced: “Steven Caulker has left QPR by mutual consent with immediate effect.

“We wish him well for the future.”

In June Caulker revealed in the Guardian that he had been struggling with depression and a gambling and drinking problem for several years.

Caulker, who spent the second half of the 2015-16 season on loan at Liverpool, has been linked with a switch to join up with former Anfield manager Brendan Rodgers at Celtic
