Spurs wait for new Robbie Keane bid

11 April 2012

Tottenham are expecting Blackburn to make a new bid for Robbie Keane after turning down an initial £2.5million offer for the striker.

Spurs are thought to want about £4.5m for the Irishman, who has been out of favour at White Hart Lane since he was allowed to join Celtic on loan in January 2010.

Keane spent the second half of last season at West Ham and is one of a number of fringe players Tottenham are desperate to move on to give them greater spending power in the transfer market.

Blackburn boss Steve Kean is likely to make another offer for the 29-year-old, who has scored a record 51 goals for his country.

Keane returned to Spurs in January 2009 after an unhappy six-month spell at Liverpool, and he remains one of the club's highest earners on £65,000-a-week, with one year left on his contract. But he turns 30 next month and it seems unlikely he will play again for Spurs.

Keane would probably have joined West Ham had they avoided relegation but he wants to stay in the Premier League. "I'm sure Tottenham will want to do business. I'll just have to see what happens," he said.
