David Beckham could have been relaxing today back in Los Angeles, where the temperature was a very pleasant 15°C with a forecast that it could hit 25°C by the weekend.
Instead, the former England captain donned a woolly hat to keep out the winter chill as he had his first training session with Tottenham at their Chigwell base.
But the LA Galaxy midfielder was more than happy to be going through his paces 5500 away from the sunny States, even if he is just restricted to a training role during his stay in London.
The 35-year-old was all smiles as he took part in the session led by Spurs coaches Clive Allen and Joe Jordan.
Former Real Madrid team-mate Jonathan Woodgate, Robbie Keane, who have both been linked with loan moves away from Spurs, and Jermain Defoe were among those to share a joke with the Beckham as they took part in small circle exercises.
It is understood Beckham is keen to play for Spurs before returning to Galaxy ahead of their first match of the new Major League Soccer season against the Seattle Sounders on 15 March.
However, it is understood Galaxy are insisting he comes back for pre-season training on 10 February and, coupled with insurance issues, his chances of appearing in the Premier League are diminishing.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has not given up and said: "It's great to have him here. We worked hard to get him here, hoping that he could come and play.
"No one could have worked harder than Daniel Levy, the chairman. They grafted away trying to get a deal done where he could play for us. It's a bit complicated, but you never know."
To identify training kit, Beckham has already been given the squad number 77, having been unable to choose one of the ones he wore at his previous clubs - Aaron Lennon has No7, Carlo Cudicini 23 and Benoit Assou Ekotto 32.
