With things going well for Chelsea on the pitch this season, attention has begun to turn to those players who should and should not receive new and improved contracts.

Indeed, one of the Chelsea players whose long-term future has been questioned in recent days is long-standing captain John Terry, who Standard Sport understands is keen to extend his time at the club he has been at since the age of 14.

The defender, who will turn 36 next month, will see his current deal at Chelsea expire at the end of the season - with Terry facing a battle to earn another contract.

Chelsea left it until the very end of last season to announce they would be giving the centre-back a new one-year deal.

But with Terry having played just five Premier League games this season due to a combination of injuries and David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta being preferred in Antonio Conte's three-man defence, the defender is likely to find it tough to break back into the Italian's starting XI.

To add, Conte still has Kurt Zouma to come back into his team while Chelsea will look to add more defenders to their squad in the winter transfer window.

So should Terry, who is currently taking his coaching badges, stay on at Chelsea for at least another season? Or should the club look to younger blood to continue on their new journey under Conte?
