Should Arsenal let Jack Wilshere leave on loan? Have your say in Standard Sport's poll

Both the player and club are in agreement, but are Arsenal right to allow Jack Wilshere to leave on loan?

In a rather rare display of ruthlessness Arsene Wenger has informed the injury-plagued 24-year-old that he is surplus to requirements, for this season at least, after Wilshere was restricted to just 37 minutes of Premier League action in the first three games of the season.

Having seen Mohamed Elneny, Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Granit Xhaka preferred to him in his favoured deep midfielder berth, Wilshere has accepted that his first-team opportunities may be limited at the Emirates.

And Wilshere has paid the price for slipping down the pecking order and was left out of the England squad on Sunday with Sam Allardyce warning the Arsenal man that he would struggle to be selected without game time.

He would surely get that game time at many of his potential suitors, with even Italian champions Juventus able to offer him a more regular starting berth during Claudio Marchisio’s injury absence.

But with a dwindling English core will Arsenal feel worse off for being without a lifelong fan in the side? And Wenger would doubtless regret loaning out such a high-quality option when the inevitable injury crisis bites.
