Shkodran Mustafi is hoping his remarkable unbeaten run at Arsenal can continue a little while longer after he opened his account for the Gunners.

The German centre-back has not been on the losing side in 21 games since arriving in north London, a £35million summer signing from Valencia.

Mustafi’s streak was rarely in doubt from the moment he headed home Arsenal’s opener just before the hour mark in their 2-1 win over Burnley though it took until the 98th minute for the win to be secured, Alexis Sanchez striking from the penalty spot to secure three points for Arsene Wenger;s men.

For Mustafi the latest in a string of late winners for Arsenal was proof of the belief coursing through the side.

"I hope there are a few more [unbeaten matches] coming," Mustafi told Sky Sports.

"I'm happy. In the end it is important to go game after game and try to win.

"That's what we've been doing, that is why we are always dangerous until the end - because we believe in ourselves."

After Mustafi flicked Mesut Ozil’s corner beyond Tom Heaton Arsenal seemed on course for a comfortable three points despite a somewhat slow start to the game.

But a red card for Granit Xhaka six minutes later gave Burnley renewed belief, culminating in an injury time penalty when Francis Coquelin felled Ashley Barnes.

"We played in their half for most of the game and then suddenly you are one man down," Mustafi added.

"It becomes difficult but we did well. Even after the [equaliser] and in the last games we've played we never give up and we always come back. I think that's credit to the team."
