Sergio Aguero to Arsenal: Odds slashed on Man City star making shock transfer

The first tenet in any Premier League fan's rule book is that there are precisely no rules when it comes to transfers.

Sergio Aguero entered the 2016/17 season as the lead striker for Premier League title favourites Manchester City, but recent reports have suggested that the Argentine forward has slipped down Pep Guardiola's pecking order.

Aguero was left on the bench for City's Champions League clash against Barcelona - with Guardiola's men going on to lose 4-0 after Claudio Bravo's red card - and was again on the bench for the EFL Cup defeat against city rivals Manchester United in midweek.

While uncertainty over Aguero's long-term future would obviously interest the majority of Europe's elite clubs, bookmakers including Ladbrokes have slashed the odds on Arsenal being the 28-year-old's next club.

Arsene Wenger signed Lucas Perez for £17million at the end of the summer transfer window having missed out on the likes of Jamie Vardy, Gonzalo Higuain and Alvaro Morata, but the Gunners manager will be without Lucas for up to two months.

The 28-year-old has been ruled out for six to eight weeks after picking up an ankle ligament problem during the 2-0 EFL Cup win over Reading, while Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck have been on the sidelines this season as well.

Alexis Sanchez has been successfully deployed as a centre-forward by Wenger this season, but the Gunners' reliance on the Chile international to continue his fine run of form seems to have got punters thinking that a sensational move for Aguero could be on the cards.

Meanwhile, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino laughed off rumours suggested he will try to sigh compatriot Aguero, saying: "Reports in Spain? Not true. 100 per cent not true."
