Man City star Sergio Aguero insists only Liverpool can 'hurt' them in Premier League title race

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero believes Liverpool are the only team capable of challenging them for the Premier League title this season.

Jurgen Klopp's side came agonisingly close to ending their 27-year wait for a league title last season, losing only once and finishing on 98 points - just one short of City's total of 99.

But the Reds have enjoyed their best-ever start in the current campaign, with 10 wins from 11 games keeping them six points clear of Man City in second, while Leicester City and Chelsea are two points further adrift.

The two teams meet in a crunch clash at Anfield on Sunday, and the Argentinian striker says Liverpool will be "motivated" to take away their crown after City's back-to-back triumphs.

"Liverpool has always been a tough opponent. But when I arrived, the team we were fighting for the title was United," Aguero told France Football.

"Initially, it was something strange in the city that City competes against United. Then there was Chelsea.

"But these last four seasons, Liverpool have become a very strong team and are now fighting with us to win the Premier League.

"It’s the only team in the league that can hurt us. They have been chasing a new league [title] for years.

"Last season, they didn’t go all the way, so they are very motivated. This year, they are in front of us and will try to go to the end.”

City travel to Anfield on Sunday knowing that victory will help them close the gap to three points.

However, Liverpool have not lost a league fixture at Anfield since April 2017 - a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace - a run that stretches back an incredible 45 games.
