Seeing red: Giroud decision stuns Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger still believes Olivier Giroud does not deserve his three-game ban, saying the challenge that saw him sent off was “completely accidental”.

The Arsenal striker was dismissed by Andre Marriner (above) following his challenge on Fulham’s Stanislav Manolev and yesterday lost his appeal against the decision.

His manager, though, today leapt to his defence, telling Arsenal Player: “It’s a harsh decision. After the game, I was a little bit less convinced that he didn’t deserve the red card but having seen it again, I feel it’s completely accidental and a very minor incident.

“That’s why I decided to appeal. I’m sad that it didn’t work but we have to cope with it.”
