West Ham midfield star Scott Parker is poised to sign a new long-term deal early next week.
Parker, who has been linked with a move away from Upton Park this summer, is expected to sign a new four-year deal with an option on a fifth year, next Monday.
The Upton Park club are also expected to tie up a loan deal with Manchester City for their Ecuador striker Felipe Caicedo.
Caicedo, 21, who joined City for £5million two seasons ago from FC Basle, was expected in London today for a medical.
West Ham's attempt to sign Miralem Sulejmani on loan from Ajax though, has ended in disappointment after the Serbian's work permit appeal failed.
An injury to new signing Thomas Hitzlsperger, picked up playing for Germany against Denmark on Wednesday, means that Radoslav Kovac will not be leaving Upton Park.
The former Czech Republic international had been linked with a move to Stoke City but the player was reluctant to move north and will now be needed to cover for Hitzlsperger, who will miss tomorrow's match at Aston Villa and could be out for five weeks with a thigh injury.
"I don't like this policy of having international friendlies just before the season," said West Ham manager Avram Grant. "It is not good either for the national teams themselves or the clubs.
"The timing is wrong. The players have an added risk of injury because they have yet to play a league match and are not in one hundred per cent condition."
Despite the pre-season setback though, Grant is enthusiastic about his first season at West Ham.
"I believe the owners' vision is a good one," he said. "We have a plan for some time ahead and we do not want to be fighting relegation."
