England Women boss Sarina Wiegman says she is leaving “no stone unturned” in preparations for this summer’s home European Championship.

The Lionesses are kicking off their Arnold Clark Cup campaign tonight, which will see them take on Canada before matches against Spain and Germany over the next seven days.

The tournament allows England to test themselves against some of the world’s best teams and it is viewed as crucial build-up to the Euros.

But Wiegman has revealed that is only part of her preparations, with the Dutch coach also working with players off the field to get them ready for the pressure of being hosts at a major tournament.

“I think the main thing in this tournament is the highest pressure in football,” said Wiegman. “So that’s all about decision-making in possession and out of possession. We have to do that quick and we have to be connected as a team, so that’s high pressure.

“The other pressure you mean, is all the things around the team that will happen. We are preparing ourselves for that, so we have meetings around that.

“We talk about that and what we especially do is prepare for the tournament, as good as possible, on and off the pitch.

“In English, you say you leave no stone unturned I think? What you want is that when you start the tournament you are so prepared that the less new things you experience, the better it is.

“When you have already experienced some things, or already thought about them off the pitch, that will help you in the tournament.”
