Salomon Kalou has returned to training following a thigh problem.

The Chelsea striker, who sustained the injury against Newcastle last month, is expected to be match fit in time for the trip to Aston Villa in nine days.

His return eases some of the pressure on the squad following the news that Yossi Benayoun could miss the rest of the season with a torn Achilles.

Chelsea will assess the midfielder further when he returns from Israel at the weekend. The severity of the 30-year-old's injury was discovered when he had a scan while on international duty.

Ancelotti has also lost defender Alex for at least three weeks after he sustained a calf problem against Arsenal on Sunday but Frank Lampard hopes to be back for the match at Villa Park after a hernia and groin problem.
