Bukayo Saka agrees to become one of Arsenal’s top earners after major breakthrough in contract talks

Agreement close over long-term future of Arsenal academy graduate

Arsenal are closing in on tying down star winger Bukayo Saka to a new contract.

Saka’s current deal is due to expire at the end of next season and Arsenal have been in talks with him for a number of months.

An agreement is now close to being finalised and the broad structure of a new contract is in place.

Saka agreeing fresh terms would be a major boost for Arsenal as the 21-year-old has admirers all over Europe.

The England winger has previously been linked with Manchester City but the Gunners have always been hopeful they could keep a player who came through their academy.

Saka is expected to become one of the Gunners top earners, meaning his wages would be in the region of £200,000-a-week.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta spoke positively in August about negotiations and said he was confident of finding an agreement.

When asked that same month if he held the same point of view, Saka said: “Yes, I share his confidence.”

Saka signing a new contract would follow Arsenal tying down Gabriel Martinelli to fresh terms earlier this month.

The club also want to get William Saliba to pen a new deal as his contract expires at the end of next season.
