Roy Hodgson rules out Crystal Palace swoop for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere

Roy Hodgson has shot down reports linking Crystal Palace with a move for Jack Wilshere in January.

Palace, then managed by Alan Pardew, failed in a bid to sign Wilshere on loan in August 2016, when the midfielder opted for a season at Bournemouth instead, and have been linked with another swoop for the Arsenal man.

The Eagles are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with just one win from 11 top flight matches this term and Hodgson is already planning for the winter transfer window.

But the former England manager insists Wilshere has not featured in conversations about the forthcoming window and dismissed the speculation as agent talk.

Hodgson said: "We have never mentioned his name.

"I work with [sporting director] Dougie Freedman and we talk about potential players and Jack Wilshere’s name has never been mentioned.

"I have got no idea about where the name of Jack Wilshere has come from, so where did you get it from? I will tell you who – his agent.

"There may come a time at Crystal Palace where Jack Wilshere would be just the player we are looking for, but I can’t tell you that is the case at the moment.

"[Leicester City's Islam] Slimani is another one – his name has never been uttered. But good luck to Jack, I think he is an outstanding player and I have got nothing but respect for him, I like him very much, but why his name should be being talked about for Crystal Palace, I don’t know."
