Romelu Lukaku was taken off on a stretcher inside the first 20 minutes of Manchester United’s match with Southampton following a clash of heads with Wesley Hoedt.
The striker, who has played every minute of United’s Premier League season so far, received treatment on the Old Trafford pitch with play suspended for over five minutes.
The entire crowd, home and away fans, gave the striker an ovation and England striker Marcus Rashford was sent on as his replacement.
Lukaku is understood to have been treated inside the stadium by club doctors, and is not expected to be taken to hospital at this stage, but Jose Mourinho has confirmed that the striker will miss at least two games.
"When you see a player leave the pitch like he did, it is usually two games at least," Mourinho told reporters after the match.
Lukaku is Manchester United’s top scorer in the league this season with ten goals and four assists so far.

Lukaku's injury is another setback for Mourinho after he confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be sidelined for a month with a knee injury.
The Swede went off at half-time in United's Boxing Day clash with Burnley but Mourinho did not divulge the nature of his injury.
