Romelu Lukaku breaks silence as Chelsea exit nears

Romelu Lukaku has arrived in Italy ahead of his proposed loan move to Inter Milan.

The forward’s return to the San Siro is almost complete, bringing an end to a miserable year for the 29-year-old.

A £97.5m return to Stamford Bridge last summer has not worked out, with Lukaku afforded only 16 Premier League starts during a difficult season for Thomas Tuchel’s frontline.

In December, the Belgian international expressed his frustration at the manner in which he was being deployed by the Chelsea boss and vowed to return to Inter.

The striker scored 24 Serie A goals during the 2020/21 season as the Nerazzurri ended an 11-year wait to return to the top of the Italian game. The year before, Lukaku had equalled Brazilian great Ronaldo’s record of scoring 34 goals across all competitions in one campaign for the club.

On Wednesday morning, Lukaku arrived in Milan to complete the deal – believed to be worth £7m – and told reporters: “I’m happy to be here.”
