Andy Robertson has confirmed he is progressing well on his return from injury.

The defender underwent surgery on a shoulder problem sustained while representing Scotland during last month’s international break and has since missed Liverpool’s last seven games.

In his absence, Jurgen Klopp has rotated Kostas Tsimikas, Joe Gomez and the emerging Luke Chambers at left-back.

Even despite a wide-scale rebuild at Anfield, however, Robertson remains a key figure of the Liverpool first-team.

The 29-year-old scored against Wolves last month and will have a major part to play as Klopp looks to challenge across a number of fronts.

After struggling last year, Liverpool are again involved in the title picture and head into Saturday’s trip to Manchester City just one point behind the champions. Klopp has also vowed to take the Europa League seriously, while his team are also into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Speaking after Scotland’s draw with Norway on Sunday night, Robertson told Viaplay Sports: “I'm getting there, slowly and surely.

"Surgery was a success which was the main thing, no complications from it or anything like that.

"It's so far so good, three weeks since my surgery now so everything is progressing well, I have just got to take it bit by bit and week by week. Everything has went well up to this point and hopefully that continues. Hopefully, before we know it I'll be back on the grass.

Asked for a potential return date, Robertson added: “I've not looked that far ahead yet.

“I'm just trying to take it week by week, I'm trying not to get frustrated, I'm not the best injured so I'm trying to take small wins every single week.”
