Millwall are on the verge of re-signing midfielder Richard Chaplow, pending a medical at The Den.

Chaplow became a free agent last week when he left Southampton, after nearly three years at St. Mary’s.

He notched 69 appearances on the south coast, scoring nine goals before his contract was mutually terminated.

Millwall will serve as familiar surroundings for the 28-year-old, who made four appearances at the club during a loan period earlier this year.

The midfielder is the Lions’ fifth signing since Steve Lomas arrived in south Bermondsey to replace the outgoing Kenny Jackett.

Stephen Bywater, Jermaine Easter, Steve Morison and Lee Martin make up Lomas’s summer acquisitions.
